Second Snow Storm of the Year 2010
This is a record breaking year for snow storms.
Now I understand the Christmas carol Good King Wenseslaus. In order to walk, I had to tread in the foot steps of others before me.
When I got up and wanted to go outside, I could not do so because I could not open the front door. I sent an e-mail message to my next door neighbor in which I asked for his help. I later called him and he said that he will do it in a couple of hours.
About 30 minutes later there was a knock on my front door. Somebody in the area was going from door to door and trying to earn a few dollars by shoveling snow. I did not have any money to pay him and I immediately told him that. He then asked if I wanted it shoveled any way and I said yes. Thus I was able to open the door.
Later I went outside and shoveled snow around my house and next door. This is also when I took the photos of Jake.
After I finished shoveling snow, I went to the park and I quickly understood the Christmas carol mentioned above and also why it took them so long to get to the tree. It was not an easy task.
After leaving the park I went to Pennsylvania Avenue and took photographs. Pennsylvania Avenue was only about 150 yards from where I was.
Because of this snow, there was no bus service, no light rail service, and no mail. The subway was running only between Johns Hopkins Hospital and Mondawmin Mall, all underground. The Divine Liturgy at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation and at oOly Trinity Russian Orthodox was cancelled. It was not cancelled at Holy Cross Orthodox Church because the priest is only two blocks away by road and there are people who live only two blocks from the church in the other direction. |
