Theophany
Because of the wonderful weather, Theophany this year was really a very special day.
Nadia picked up Joseph and me near my house. There was construction on the street, but it did not present a problem. We just made a U-turn and took an alternate route.
When we got to the temple, Fr. John and his family were already preparing the water. I said my Entrance Prayers and vested. I also made sure that I had the right service book. I forgot to check the Gospel and did not think about it until the Trisagion. Right before the Gospel Fr. John reminded me that it was the Gospel of St. Matthew. I checked it during the reading of the Epistle.
Most of those in attendance were Russian, so Fr. John and I did a little more Slavonic than we normally would do.
After the Liturgy we went to the creek to bless the water there. It was a little slippery at places, but we managed. We all enjoyed the walk there and back.
Then we had a wonderful meal. As usually, there was plenty of food and we just sat around for hours and enjoyed the wonderful company and weather. Nicholai, Ioan, and Galena toured our carriage house which is in some of the photos below. I have a picture of them returning from their tour.
Of course I also took photographs of some of the interesting and beautiful scenery. We have some very beautiful property, even in the most barren time of the year.
Andrei provided the first photographs from his cell phone. All of his photos were taken outside. The next set, starting with the interior of the chapel, was taken by Sasha, a teenager, with my Nikon D50 dSLR with the 28-80mm lens, and the remaining were taken by Antoni with my other Nikon D50 dSLR with the 70-300mm lens. They started with the second set of photos of the blessing of the creek. I took the scenery photos between the two sets of the blessing of the water and the picnic photos and the two last photos.
I am grateful to the photographers who made this page possible and also who are helping us to create a history of the parish. |
