2008 Christmas Tree
Every year we put up two Christmas trees at our church. One is in the narthex and the other is in the nave. A handful of people, including our priest Fr. John and his family, spent two lovely hours working together and getting the job done. We also do some cleaning. Thus, when we come to church for services, we come to a very beautifully decorated church.
Yes, we do know that Christ was not born on 25 December, nor 7 January. What is important is that He became man for our salvation and we acknowledge this by celebrating His Nativity. There are several theories for the date of 25 December, but none is as important as the fact of His birth.
In the East we celebraate not only His birth, but also the visit of the Maji. For us Epiphany, more properly called Theophany, is the commemoration of His baptism by John in the Jordan. |
