Although the Russian Festival is the most important festival for me, I also look forward to the Ukranian Festival.
This year we were rained out on Saturday. That was good for me since it gave me two additional days to take care of personal business. I had a birthday party to attend in Washington and the rain meant that I did not have to rush to get there.
One of the highlights of the Festival was meeting Fr. Andrew Bieganowski of the Polish National Catholic Church. Fr. Andrew has two parishes, one in Baltimore and one in Adelphi. I also had an opportunity to taste some of their food and it was delicious.
Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Steliac from St. Andrew Ukrainian Cathedral in Silver Spring also came to the Festival. It was a very pleasant surprise to see him. I served at his cathedral a few years ago when Archbishop Antony also served and I was expecting Fr. Gregory to be there, but he could not attend. I live roughly half way between Fr. Gregory's parish and this cathedral and it takes me just about an hour to get to either one.
I also visited with friends from my previous parish, St. Andrew. Their apple fritter was great. Fr. Theodore was there and he pitched in and helped with real work.
I also visited the people from St. Michael Ukranian Orthodox Church. Over the years they have been wonderful to me and I hope that one day I can actually visit their church. This is the one of two Orthodox churches in Baltimore where I have not been. The other is the Greek church in Bel Air. That church is about an hour away.
The Lyman Ukrainian Dance Ensemble performed again and I made sure that I took plenty of photographs, especially since our own John is one of the members.
One gentleman was impressed with the fact that I'm involved with the Ukranian/Russian church and he wanted a picture of us two together. I got somebody from St. Andrew to take the photo for us.
I also enjoyed talking in Russian with Anna at the Citiy of Baltimore's booth. She was working with the Baltimore Sister City Association. Again, I signed up to join. I hope that this time there will be some results.
