Journey to Orthodoxy

On Monday 2 July 2007 we were treated to another lecture by Fr. Daniel. This time he told us what led him to Orthodoxy. I feel a bond with him now after he told us that he discovered and read the book The Orthodox Church by Bishop Kallistos.

The gathering was truly a "Pan-Orthodox" event. We had faithful from ROCOR, OCA, MP, and AA. For those who do not do alphabet soup, these are the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, the Orthodox Church in America, Moscow Patriarchate, and Antiochian Archdiocese. Other jurisdictions probably were also present. Parishes represented were Holy Apostles ROCOR (host parish), St. Nicholas Cathedral in Washington (OCA), Holy Trinity in Baltimore (MP), and Holy Cross in Linthicum (AA).

In addition to the various parishes and jurisdictions represented, we also were blessed with the presence of some hearing impaired faithful and volunteers were available to sign for them. They were also here last week.

Fr. Daniel is trying to raise funds to support his church back home. He is the head of the Indonesian Orthodox Church. Indonesian law requires that the head of the church be a citizen of that country. But he is under a ROCOR bishop. Unfortunately the Russian Church does not have funds to support the mission. Fr Daniel needs our support and so do the Orthodox Christians in Indonesia.
