Deer at Cathedral Garden
Most of us city-slickers rarely see wild life, even deer. I remember a trip in San Antonio in which I saw hundreds of deer and was amazed because up to this time, I was lucky if I saw one or two. I was in my 30s then. By this time I have seen a bear when a group of us went camping.
Therefore, to see these deer at Cathedral Garden is a treat to me. On Saturday 21 July 2007 I arrived at the chapel a little early. As I drove into the property, I saw three deer and they immediately ran when they saw the car. As I came up to the chapel, there were three more and they immediately scattered into the woods.
After Vespers I walked towards the cemetery and saw three more deer. One was fairly close and I concentrated on this one. Several times he looked up at me, turned around, and continued to eat grass. As he was eating, I would walk about three steps and stop. I did this several times and at each "station" I took a few photographs.
Thank God for my Nikon D50 camera and my 70-300mm lens. I wish that I had a vibration-free lens, but I have what I could afford. I went on-line to look for a longer lens, but I found almost nothing.
