July Crab Feast

The St. Alexander Nevsky Brotherhood meets once a month. This is the men's social club of the parish. During the summer we have at least one crab feast at Cathedral Gardens. Those of us who attend always have a fantastic time and Albert does an outstanding job every time.

This is not a fund raiser and we need to keep the cost at a reasonable level. There is usually plenty of crabs, corn on the cob, beer, and sodas. Most important is for us all to have a good time.

Incidentally, the Bible does not prohibit the use of alcohol. It prohibits its abuse. There is a tremendous difference. Psalm 103 says "Thou makest wine to gladden the hearts of men." Sorry, but I can't image grape juice gladdening the hearts of men.

I included the last paragraph because centuries ago I told a woman at work about an incident at my cathedral when we had to escort a man off the premise because he became drunk. This woman said that my church could not be a true church because we serve alcohol and her church teaches the whole Bible. After this conversation, I specifically read the Bible looking for references to wine and strong drinks and found no prohibition against the general use thereof.
