Dormition Flowers

In the Orthodox Church on the feast of the Dormition we bless flowers because when Mary fell asleep and the Apostles went to her tomb to show Thomas the body, the body was gone and the tomb was filled with the fragrance of flowers.

Evelyn donated flowers to be blessed and then to decorate the temple during the Liturgy on Sunday. After the Liturgy she and Ksenia distributed them to the people. I gave mine to the mother of my godson. She will take much better care of it than I would.

Of course we had our usual social hour after the Liturgy. This was one of the things that won me over from the Western Rite of the Catholic Church to the Eastern Rite. After Liturgy they had coffee and donuts in the Byzantine Rite church which I attended. In the Western Rite church closest to me we just went home.

Regardless of how some of us feel about photography, the point which I think is important is that we are a community. In fact, we are actually a family. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ and I try to capture this in my photographs. Nobody is unimportant. If somebody is doing something, I want to capture it and I hope that one day somebody will see one of these photographs and realize that this is where he belongs.

Of course I have to have pictures of me with my godson. I'm sure that there will be more.

Another classic

Vera took these photos of me with my godson

She looked up just as I was about to take the photo

This is what I wanted.
