Twelfth Night
Being involved with young people is a real blessing. Recently two of those in my life has made my weekend really memorable and enjoyable. They are Christopher and Vera. Both took part in the production of Twelfth Night and I enjoyed both productions. Christopher was in the pre-teen edition and Vera was in one of the two teen edition.
On Thursday evening Daniel Walsh picked me up at my house. We arrived in plenty of time and we just had to wait, so we did. Drew and Rachel arrived along with Vera. At the production I sat with Rachel and Dan was behind us. Drew was on the landing and making a video.
I did not know that we would be allowed to take photographs, so I brought only my Kodak, "my toy." It did a decent job. You can tell when I go from Christopher to Vera because of the beautiful outside photographs between them.
After the show, Daniel, Adele, and I went to Macroni Grill for dinner. As we approached the restaurant, I saw Peter, his sister Christine, and Alexis outside the restaurant. The six of us chatted for a few minutes and then we went inside.
Our waiter was Boris, a member of my Cathedral in Washington. He and I talked in Russian and in English. He knows some of the people whom I know from the Cathedral, but he goes to the Slavonic service and I always went to the English one.
I ordered Vodka Russica, of course. It was the only thing "Russian" on the menu of an Italian restaurant. The three of us had a delightful evening.
On Sunday evening Daniel again picked me up and as we arrived at the Howard Community College parking lot, his sister pulled up right behind us. In the auditorium a friend of Adele sat with her. Drew again made a video. This time I had my Nikon. I had previously set it to ISO 1600 and then I switched to landscape to kill the flash. Apparently when I did this, the camera changed the ISO to 200, which was not what I needed. This is why so many pictures are blurred. The shutter speed was around 1/4 second, much too slow for handheld pictures. Had it stayed at ISO 1600, the shutter speed would had been around 1/30 which would had been adequate. I have used that speed many times with all my cameras, including the Mamiya C33 and Kowa SIX.
But I had a great time. Vera was fantastic, but I expected that. But I did not know that she could dance. This was a really pleasant surprise. In retrospect, I think that either Drew or Adele did say something about sending her to dance school and I said that I would love to see her work on her singing. She has the voice of an angel.
