Church School Painting
On Saturday 14 July 2007, aftar a wonderful crab feast the previous evening, some of us showed up to help paint the church school main classroom. Michael Coady, a professional painter, arrived with his helper and Monika was in charge of the event. Michael's godfather Michael also arrived and so did Sandy with atwo little angels. Also helping were Sue and Alla.
When I drove up, I noticed signs pointing to a workshop. The last sign was on the door of the church hall. This was a surprise to me, especially since Fr. John did not say anything to me about it the previous evening.
I walked into the hall and then to the room where the painting was being done. I got out my Nikon camera and then went upstairs and put on one of my old cassocks. Thank God that I di dnot get rid of it yet. Then I went down stairs and mingle with the people at the workshop.
This workshop is the type of activities that I would like to see many more churches doing. I talked with the presenter, Philip O. Allen Jr. of The Harbor Bank of Maryland, and we both agree that this type of activity is much more important and beneficial than things like soup kitchens. Here we are empowering people to move forward. Soup kitchens do not empower. In too many cases they enable a dependency.
