Wednesday of the 2007 Parish Life Conference

Registration started on Wednesday 4 July 2007, Independence Day. George and Sadyah worked hard in getting up a good registration system and creating and maintaining a data base. Deacon Mark O'Dell did a fantastic job of organizing the Conference and making sure that everything went smoothly. He also took care of all the workers.

People from the local parishes volunteered to ensure that the Conference was a success. I interacted mainly with Holy Cross people. But they are like a family to me any way.

I knew that this would be a good conference, but when I walked into the room which became the temple, I was really taken back by the number of young people there. The room was half full at the time and I did not see that many who were over 50. Most of the people in the room were in their teens or early 20s. What a sight this was to behold: A church service full of young people who are there because they love God and their church.

After the Liturgy on Bright Saturday, we had a Paschal Procession around the entire block. We had the procession the last two years, but this year we actually walked in the street as the New York Police Department blocked off the streets for us. We started from the cathedral on 97th Street, turned left on Madison Avenue, then left on 98th Street, and again left on Fifth Avenue, and again on 97th Street where we ended in front of the cathedral for the proclaimation of the Gospel.

Bishop GABRIEL took part in this procession as did two others from his office. One was Eugene Hrihoriak, the accountant and fundraising coordinator for the Church.
