Greek Festival - Sunday

On Sunday Joseph and I rode to the Festival in my car. When we arrived, there was a group dancing and I took photographs. We then went inside and within a few minutes we saw several people from Holy Trinity Orthodox Church. We had lunch with Michael Coady and his family. It was probably obvious to some people that I'm a proud godfather when I introduced them to Tendai.

A few years ago I attended the Greek Festival at St. Nicholas which was on the same weekend as the African-American Heritage Festival, formerly known as AFRAM. I did not attend the latter. A co-worker jumped all over me because I attended the Greek Festival and not the African-American one. He could understand only the ethnic connection. He did not understand that as an Orthodox Christian, I have a strong bond with the Greek churches. We are united in the Faith, in our belief in Jesus Christ. I am not united in the Faith with "African-American" churches. I do not believe what they believe. But I do believe what the Greek churches believe.

This year I attended the Festival on Saturday and Sunday. I went Saturday to make sure that I did not miss the Festival. I met a wonderful Greek family whose daughter was one of the dancers that day. I hope that I will see them again and get to know them.

I had a lamb dinner and it was fantastic. Fr. Mathew did a great job of giving a tour of the temple and so did the woman for the chapel.

Near the end of the Festival Fr. Mathew and I were sitting in the library when Mark entered. I immediately recognized him but he did not recognize me right away. He came over to greet us and introduced himself. When I introduced myself as "Father Michael" he looked puzzled. I think that at this point he recognized the voice and the face probably looked familiar. The expression on his face was priceless. He made the connection when I mentioned the Transit Riders League, of which we both were members.
