First Picnic in 2006

The first picnic which I attended at Holy Trinity was also a planning meeting for the annual Russian Festival. This was before the property was renovated. It was nice then, but even nicer now.

Now that we have a pavillion and playground, our intention is to have a picnic every month. We also invite other Orthodox parishes in the area to use the facilities. There have been private parties at the picnic and a wedding reception, among other things.

The picnic grounds are at Cathedral Gardens in Elkridge. The property is approximately 65 acres. On the north end of the property is the cemetery and on the south end is the picnic area. Next to the cemetery is the chapel. Between the chapel and the picnic area is a big field, easily the length of a football field.

The first picnic of 2006 was on Sunday 21 May 2006. After the Liturgy at the church, several of us hung around the church for some time and then came to the picnic. As I arrived, one of the girls told me that the corn was good and she was right. I ended up eating five corns, two hamburgers, and two and a half slices of watermelon.

The picnic was also an opportunity to socialize with members of my parish. I had a chance to have a long conversation with one man for the first time since he and his family started coming to the church. Now I feel close to them. His daughter and I were friends already and I am so happy that I know who her father is. I also have a better idea how the other girls fit into the family.

To add to the festive atmosphere, Xenia brought two bottles of champaign and those who cared enjoyed it. Svetana also brought chocolate.

Below are photographs of members of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church and our visitors.

For the record, this page is not an official document of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church nor any other organization. It is strictly my personal recollection of the wonderful day.
