Festival Icon Blessing

Fr. Michael Clancy gave us a new tradition at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church. At our annual Festival, we officially open and end it with a profession and in the procession we carry the icon of the patron saint for the Festival. Generally the saint is an American saint or a Russian saint who has some type of connection with America.

This year the patron saint is Saint Raphael of Brooklyn. He was born in Damascus and he spoke several languages, including Russian. He was invited to come to America where he was ordained a bishop to serve mainly the Arabic speaking communities. At the time all the Orthodox churches in America were under the Russians.

The icon arrived during the week and at the end of the Liturgy today Fr. John blessed it.
