Fathers' Day Picnic 2006
The annual Fathers' Day picnic was a real success. We had people from as far as Florida there and the ages were from three and up.
It was a real treat meeting relatives of the Pastor family. Several other people were there whom I was really thrilled to see. I won't mentioned most of them by name. But it was also good meeting Michael's wife Kira and I spent some time with her and their son, Tiday(?). He is one of the most adorable little three-year old that you would want to meet. I hope that she will correct me on the names.
I was really surprised to see Christina there. I just saw her a week earlier at the Greek Festival and that also was a very pleasant surprise. I first met Christina at the Russian Festival and I presumed that she was Russian.
The picnic grounds are at Cathedral Gardens in Elkridge. The property is approximately 65 acres. On the north end of the property is the cemetery and on the south end is the picnic area. Next to the cemetery is the chapel. Between the chapel and the picnic area is a big field, easily the length of a football field.
Near the end of the day Lillian Hoffman shared with Kira and me a little history of the property. It was a mansion and the main building burned down. The property was sold to Holy Trinity and for a year the person who actually brought the property carried the deed in his pocket and never told anybody because he was afraid that people would cause a major problem if they knew that the property was for a cemetery. Lillian also told us that the government sold us the old chapel and we moved it from its original location at the current BWI Airport to its prenent location.
The picnic was also an opportunity to socialize with members of my parish. I had a chance to meet new people and talk with people whom I already knew and to get to know them better. I still need to get to kow people's names.
Below are photographs of members of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church and our visitors.
For the record, this page is not an official document of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church nor any other organization. It is strictly my personal recollection of the wonderful day.
