CityScape

On Saturday 25 August 2007 we had a Cityscape workshop at Shake and Bowl on Pennsylvania Avenue. The meeting itself was very good and well organized. My only problem was the location itself. Inside there was no problem, but throughout the meeting I kept worrying about the safety of my car. I was park almost directly in front of the building.

Another gentleman attending the meeting complained about the drug dealers outside. I did not notice them, but it would not had surprised me.

The next meeting will be Saturday 8 September 2007 at State Center.

Ironically one of the issues about State Center is that it feels unsafe. I feel much safer there than I did at the current meeting location. One of the things that made me feel so unsafe was the amount of trash all over the area.

Now that you have heard my concerns, let's look at the positive things which easily out weight the negative. This is an opportunity for stakeholders to get involved in the new design of the State Center. Anybody who lives or works in the area should be at the meetings. If you take the Metro or Light Rail, perhaps you should be at the meetings. We discussed better connectivity between the two and bus and Marc and Amtrak trains.

Some of the buildings, if not all, will have to be demolished. What will replace them? We are looking at residential and commercial usage as well as State offices. We want the property to be used around the clock and not to be a deserted concrete jungle in the evening and on weekends.
