CSX FreightAs I was helping Art outside his warehouse, I had the opportunity to watch several CSX trains pass. I really did not know whether or not this was an active railroad track, but I still did not take any chances. When I crossed, I did so with extreme care and when a train went by, I kept my distance. I could hear the trains in a distance. I was surprised to see at least seven trains pass in either directions in a period of about six hours. Although this is freight train territory here, CSX also runs one of the lines of the MARC commuter trains. Amtrac runs the other line(s). At Comcast my supervisor, whom I normally refer to as Useless, once stated that CSX runs the MARC trains and I disagreed with him. He said that he is a train buff and that he knows. The next week I attended a meeting of the Transit Riders League with the adminitrator of the Maryland Transit Administration and next to me sat Kathy Waters, the head of MARC. I told her about our discussion and she said that I was absolutely correct. Useless did not like it at all when I told him the next day at work. A point here is that supervisors need to get to know their people. Just because somebody is working in a low position, don't assume that he doesn't know anything. When he made his statement with certainty, I checked out the facts. |
