Bus Accident
Was it really worth the try? Apparently on Friday 9 October 2009 a car tried to cut around an MTA bus and lost. Not only did he lose, but several of the passengers on the bus lost as they were taken to the hospital. I saw people put into one of the two ambulances that were standing there when I arrived.
When I arrived on the scene with my camera, I noted nine police cars, five MTA vehicles, six Fire Department emergency equipment, and one fire chief. Most of the Baltimore policement who responded deferred to the MTA Police who have state police authority in the State of Maryland. I did not do a head count of people.
I heard that a car tried to cut off the bus and as a result, two children were hit. They were crossing the street with their mother. The bus hit a tan car which ran into the black car in front of it.
Because of the accident traffic was tied up for blocks. Traffic traveling north on Paca Street had to turn right to Mulberry Street. Traffic going west on Franklin Street had to turn right on Howard Street. Traffic heading towards downtown on Pennsylvania Avenue had to turn at MLK. Nobody was allowed to turn onto Paca, Franklin Street, nor Pennsylvania Avenue in the affected area. One woman showed her ignorance by leaning on her own and she was immediately rebuked by a police officer. Thank you, officer. I have noticed other people also being ignorant. Another woman not only blocked the cross walk, but also tried to get into the traffic although she had a red light. |
