Baltimore Marathon Mess
Supposedly the Baltimore Marathon brings in $20 million to the city, but it also brings in a tremendous amount of frustration and grief to those of us who have no interest in the Marathon.
Traffic was a nightmare in the Seton Hill area. One chaplain had to get over to Johns Hopkins Hospital to see a dying patient and he could not get through the mess. Emergency vehicles could not get through in a timely manner.
Although the claim was that the Marathon brings in money, it also costs local businesses. Never on Sunday was completely empty when I arrived at 10:30. I have never seen it this empty in the whole time that I lived in Baltimore.
I observed one bus sitting at Paca Street and Druid Hill Avenue for five minutes wtihout moving. Imagine tahe frustration of the driver in the car behind it.
The City needs to come up with a plan to keep traffic moving and allowing people to continue with their lives. |
