Seton Hill Neighborhood Association's president Kevin Macartney is accepting a position in London, England, and the Association gave him a farewell party. We will miss Kevin.
We met at Dougherty's on Chase Street, just across the street from Rite-Aide Drug Store.
Although some business was discussed, this was mainly a fun event. It gave me an opportunity to meet some of my neighbors whom I have not met in the past and to get to know a little better others whom I have known.
Kevin and his significant other, who is from Brazil and Portugueseis her native language, shared with us a story about the time that somebody broke into his car outside his house. The police came and told him, "Your car was broken into." She had to go to see this! She thought that he said, "Your car was broken in two."
When I was in the seminary, my Russian friends would ask me, "Will you take me to xxx and drop me?"
Then there was the time that Taisia and I went to McDonald's on a meatless day. We had missed dinner at the seminary and we both were poor full-time students. When we got to the counter, I just reminded her of the day and then minded my own plate. She order a cheeseburger and I ordered a fish fillet. When we got to our table and she opened the package, she then learned that a cheeseburger is not a chess sandwich.
I later shared this story with somebody and he reminded me that people from India are confused when they go to McDonald's and expect a hamburger to be pork, not beef, something that they can't eat.
I digressed. Thank you, Kevin, for all your hard work, and thank you, the rest of the Board, present and past, for all your hard work. We intend to keep Seton Hill as a wonderful neighborhood and "walking distance to the rest of the world."
