All-State Reception

While at work at the Y of Central Maryland a call came in for our director and I took the call. It quickly became obvious to me that she would not really be interested, but it sounded like something that would be good for me to attend as a deacon in the Church and I shared this with the caller and I was invited to the reception.

As it turned out, I was correct. The event was good for me as a deacon, but not as an individual. I do not do sales except in a retail environment. I suspect that for me to become an All-State representative could be a conflict of interest, or it could appear as such to some people. But the knowledge which I picked up that day will be valuable to me as a deacon.

Most All-State agents are owner-agents and they had made a considerable investment of capital into their business. State was founded in 1931 and went public in 1993. The name came from a tire by Sears and they were based just outside of Chicago.

All-State, as do many major companies today, consider diveristy very important. "It is not just a moral requiremnt, but also a business requirement," according to Shelly, the president and foundr of a company which helps to find agents for All-State. Women make up 51% of their work force and minorities make up 31% and these people are also in position of authority.

Their currentr campaign is "Beyond February" and to them February is not just history month.

Most of their agents also have other businesses. If you are a successful small business owner, you might want to consider also becoming an agent for All-State. But you need a list of 1,000 people to start. You can continue to maintain your businesses as long as they don't conflict with your association at All-State.
