Marathon Weekend 2006

Normally the Marathon coincides with the Russian Festival and I expected the same this year. As I made my way towards Howard's for my usualy breakfast rendez-vous, I was not very happy to find out that there was a marathon going on this weekend. It was only later that I learned that this is the big Marathan.

Regadless, I have a major problem with the Baltimore Marathon. Motorists are inconvenienced and businesses lose customers because people cannot get through the maze to get to places where they need to go. Several people told me that they had to walk a considerable disatance in order to get to their destination because the bus did not go through downtown. One man with a cane had to walk three blocks from his parking spot to Howard's. Wheelchair bound passengers, obviously, must have a very difficult time going to their destination by bus because they have to get off one bus and travel several blocks to get to the next bus on the same route.

On the way to Howard's, I noticed some work being done on treees up the street from me and I took the opportunity to take photographs. I just wish that I could had bribed them to cut down the street in front of my house. Ms. Ernestine and I both want it taken down because it is damaging our historical houses. I also was not very happy on Thanksgiving Day 2006 when I left my house and saw the mess that the birds did on my car.

After I had breakfast, I went to St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church for their booksale. I love going to booksales and second hard book stores. I did purchase a few good books at the church and took some pictures of the beautiful interior architecture.

It was also good visiting with Monty and his wife Daria and their daughter Emily. Monty is fluent in Russian. I met him and his family through the St. Maximos Group which now meets the first Sunday of the month. We used to meet on Friday evenings.
